The fire spread again in the forests as the heat increased

After unseasonal rains in Uttarakhand, the forests are now burning.

From November 22 to March this year, about 150 hectares of forests were gutted by the fire. This year, due to unseasonal rains, there were no forest fire incidents from the last week of March to the last week of April. Now in the first week of May, the state’s forests are again in the grip of fire due to rising heat.

In the month of May, there were incidents of forest fire at more than 23 places in Uttarakhand on four days. According to the latest report of the Forest Fire and Disaster Management Department of Uttarakhand, there has been a rapid increase in the incidents of fire in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours and in the last four days, 25 hectares of forest fire has been reported in the state. More forests have been burnt.

Uttarakhand’s Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal says that the forest department is constantly monitoring the incidents of forest fires and all arrangements are being made to stop them. In fact, there has been a drastic change in the time cycle of rain and snowfall in Uttarakhand due to the rapid movement of Western Disturbances towards the north. Due to the changing time cycle of rains, the higher reaches of the state have received unusual snowfall in the month of April as well.

For the first time in 23 years, there was no snowfall in Uttarakhand in January-February. Professor BD Joshi, environmentalist and former chairman of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Gurukul Kangri University, says that Uttarakhand is seeing a difference in the time cycle of normal rainfall throughout the year, except for the four months that normally fall during the monsoon. But this year the difference in time cycle has changed very fast.

Brikam Singh, director of the Meteorological Center of Uttarakhand, said that except for the four months of monsoon, there is usually a difference in the figures of normal rainfall throughout the year. But, this year this difference has been recorded much more so far. Due to this, continuous snowfall has been observed in the higher reaches even in the month of April.

Uttarakhand normally receives 101.7 per cent rainfall, 158.2 per cent before monsoon, 1162.7 per cent during monsoon and 55 per cent after monsoon. But the rainfall in March-April this year is 41 per cent more than the normal rainfall. Increase in pre-monsoon rains has been recorded.
