The world’s second largest Hindu temple outside India will be inaugurated on October 8 in New Jersey, America. Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey was built over 12 years by more than 12,500 volunteers from across the United States. Even before the formal inauguration of the temple, thousands of people come here every day for darshan. This temple, famous as Adhardham, is built in an area of 183 acres.
The second largest temple in the world
This temple is spread over 183 acres and is currently visited by thousands of Hindus and people of other religions from across the country. The temple is built according to ancient Hindu scriptures and depicts ancient Indian culture, including 10,000 sculptures and statues, carvings of Indian musical instruments and dance forms. This temple is the second largest temple after Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
‘The goal is to spread Hindu traditions to the world’
Akshardham Temple located in New Delhi is built on 100 acres. It was opened to the general public in 2005. Aksharvatsaldas Swami of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha told PTI in an interview, “Our spiritual leader (Pramukh Swami Maharaj) had the vision that there should be a place in the Western Hemisphere that was not for only Hindus, only Indians or only a few groups of people. Be for all the people of the world. This place should be for the whole world, where people can come and learn some of the values, universal values, of the Hindu tradition.”
Aksharvatsaldas Swami said, “This was his (Pramukh Swami Maharaj) wish and this was his resolution. As per his resolution, this Akshardham has been built in accordance with the traditional Hindu temple architecture. This temple will be formally inaugurated on October 8 and will be opened for general devotees from October 18.
