These two MLAs joined the Bhagwant Mann cabinet, changes in portfolios of five ministers

In a letter written to the Governor, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has informed about handing over five departments to MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet.

The Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab expanded its cabinet on Wednesday, with MLAs Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan and Balkar Singh taking oath as new ministers in Punjab. Now Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has also fixed the portfolios of five ministers.

1. Water Resources 2. Mines & Geology 3. Science, Technology & Environment 4. Sports & Youth Services 5. Land and Water Services Conservation of Land & Water is the department.

Apart from this, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has been given the ministry of 1. NRI Affairs and 2. Administrative Reforms.

Laljit Singh Bhullar has been entrusted with 1. Transport 2. Rural Development & Panchayats department.

Balkar Singh has been entrusted with 1. Local Government 2. Parliamentary Affairs department.

Gurmeet Singh Khudian has been assigned the ministry of 1. Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, 2. Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development, 3. Food Processing.

Gurmeet Singh Khudian (60) is the MLA from Lambi seat of Muktsar. In the Punjab assembly elections held in 2022, he defeated five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in his stronghold by a margin of 11,396 votes.

Balkar Singh (60) is the MLA from Kartarpur reserved seat in Jalandhar. Singh is a former police officer. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2021 after retiring from the Punjab Police. Singh became MLA for the first time in the election. This is the third cabinet expansion of the 14-month-old Mann-led government in Punjab. The Bhagwant Mann government expanded its first cabinet in July 2022, in which five legislators from the party were made ministers. In January this year, senior AAP leader and MLA from Patiala Rural Dr. Balbir Singh was made a minister. He was made a minister after the resignation of Fauja Singh Sarari.
