Three killed and many injured in shooting in residential area of New Mexico, attackers also killed in encounter

At the same time, 26 people have died in another incident in Mexico. A van and a cargo truck collided on a highway in northern Mexico on Sunday, killing 26 people. Prosecutors and police in the northern border state of Tamaulipas said the vehicle towing the cargo truck was not found at the scene, suggesting the driver may have detached it from the cargo trailer and fled.
Officials said the accident happened on a highway near the state capital Ciudad Victoria. Investigation is on to ascertain the cause of the incident. Local media reported that many of the dead could be members of the same family who were returning from somewhere, but officials have not confirmed this. Mexico has had a high number of deaths in similar accidents in the past, which have often been blamed on overcrowded vehicles linked to smuggling.
