What is Uniform Civil Code?
Uniform Civil Code can be called a secular law. After the implementation of this law, personal laws of all religions will end. At present there are separate religious laws for the Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Parsi communities. Hindu law also applies to followers of the Buddha, Jain and Sikh religions. These laws have to be obeyed on subjects like will and marriage.
In this, the rules regarding divorce and subsequent maintenance are also decided through personal law. In such a situation, if the Uniform Civil Code is implemented, then all these personal laws will end and the citizens will have to insist on a uniform civil code.
Did BJP promise in the election?
