Umar Khalid Interim Bail: According to jail officials, Umar Khalid has been released from Tihar Jail at 7 am today.
delhi riots case Jawaharlal Nehru (JNU) University alumnus Umar Khalid has been released from Tihar Jail for seven days to attend his sister’s wedding. Umar Khalid was granted interim bail by a Delhi court to attend his sister’s wedding. According to jail officials, Umar Khalid has been released from Tihar Jail at 7 am today.
Got 7 days release with conditions
Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat imposed several conditions while granting release to Umar Khalid to attend his sister’s wedding. The court said in the order that on release, Umar Khalid will not contact any witness nor can he tamper with the evidence. The court said that he should give his mobile number to the investigating officer so that he can be in touch with him. The court has also imposed many other conditions, in which it has been said that Umar Khalid’s mobile should remain on till the period of interim bail.
The court said in the order that Umar Khalid will have to video call the investigating officer daily during the period of interim bail. Umar Khalid cannot access social media during this time. The court has kept all these conditions in view of the apprehension of the police in which the police had expressed apprehension of spreading misinformation using social media during the interim bail period.
Umar Khalid is jailed under serious sections like UAPA
Umar Khalid has been charged under anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and provisions of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly plotting the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
In these riots 53 people were killed and more than 700 were injured. Violence had erupted during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020.
