WC2023: This Andhra Pradesh-born Netherlands player kept his promise, why did he shave his head for the ODI World Cup

The Netherlands team will now be seen playing in India in the ODI World Cup 2023. The team became the 10th team to qualify for this ICC tournament by defeating Scotland in the Super Six match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifier. The Netherlands achieved the feat by defeating Scotland by four wickets in a Super Six match on Thursday. As soon as the Netherlands qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023, all-rounder Teja Nidamanuru of this team shaved his head. He had earlier promised that he would do the same if his team qualified for the ODI World Cup and he has now kept his promise.

Took vow on 16th June, shaved head on 6th July

Netherlands all-rounder Teja had vowed on 16 June 2023 that he would shave his head if his team qualifies for the 2023 ODI World Cup. After this, as soon as his team defeated Scotland and made a place in the top ten on July 6, he shaved his head while fulfilling his promise. Although Teja’s bat did not work against Scotland and he scored 10 runs in 11 balls with the help of a four while batting at number five. In this match, his team’s all-rounder Bas G Leede played an innings of 123 runs and also took 5 wickets. It was on the basis of his all-round performance that the Netherlands achieved this success.

Teja was born in Andhra Pradesh and now plays cricket for the Netherlands. He has also played domestic cricket in New Zealand for Ausland. As of 2021, he was a business development manager at a workflow company, as well as working with Netherlands international Stefan Myberg. He made his ODI debut on 31 May 2022 against West Indies in ODIs and after that he made his debut in T20 International cricket on 11 July 2022 against Papua New Guinea. In the 11 ODIs he has played so far, he has scored 269 runs with one century while in the 6 T20 matches he has scored only 110 runs.
