We can deal with VP and Rijiju ourselves, Justice rebukes Bombay’s lawyers who came with a petition on SC’s criticism
Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, while rejecting the special leave petition filed against the decision of the Bombay High Court, asked the lawyers’ association – what is this, why have you come here, what is the intention to complete the affair.
The Bombay Lawyers Association, which reached the Supreme Court with a petition against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, has received a scathing rebuke. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, while rejecting the special leave petition filed against the decision of the Bombay High Court, asked the lawyers’ association – what is this, why have you come here. Justice said that if any authority has given a controversial statement, then we can deal with it ourselves.
The Bombay Lawyers Association had filed a writ in the Bombay High Court alleging that Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had criticized the Supreme Court and its collegium on the issue of appointment of judges. Both said that the constitution has given the government the right to appoint judges. The Supreme Court is forcibly interfering in the affairs of the executive and the legislature.
Bombay High Court has already filed PIL
The Lawyers Association said that the Vice President and the Law Minister have insulted the Supreme Court and the Collegium. Therefore, the High Court should give a decision to dismiss both of them from their posts. The High Court, while rejecting his petition, had said that the pride and glory of the Supreme Court is like the sky. He cannot be tainted by what someone says. However, during the hearing, the Vice President while apologizing to the court also said that it was not in his jurisdiction to remove him from the post. After hearing, the petition was dismissed by the High Court.
Justice said – Supreme Court itself is capable of dealing with such situations
After that the Lawyers Association filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court. The lawyers’ association said that the High Court did not give the right decision. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said that the High Court had given the right decision. He said that if any authority has given any controversial statement, then the Supreme Court is capable of dealing with it on its own. There is no need of PIL for that.
