‘We don’t follow trends, we come directly to the government’, says Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann after victory in Jalandhar bypoll

The Aam Aadmi Party has won the by-election for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat in Punjab. After the victory, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that we do not come in trends, we come directly in the government. AAP candidate Sushil Rinku was in the fray on this seat. He has defeated Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur Chowdhary.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference after the victory. During this, he thanked the people for the victory in Jalandhar and talked to the journalists. Mann said, “As of now even we do not know who is our vote bank. We do not come in any survey, we come directly in the government. No one was believing that 67 would come, no one was believing that 63 would come. No one was believing that 92 would come.

He further said that the scenario of every election is different and we accepted the decision taken by the people in Sangrur. What were the shortcomings there, what could we not do, learned from them and are working in Jalandhar to remove those shortcomings.

Bhagwant Mann said, “People have rejected all these and have won the fatwa of work culture and honesty of the Aam Aadmi Party government. More than 8.5 lakh people voted and we will try to live up to the expectations. We will consider it our responsibility to live up to the expectations of the people of Jalandhar.

At the same time, there has been a reaction from the Congress as well. Accepting defeat in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wading said, “We humbly accept the mandate, congratulate you.” Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)-backed Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidates Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal were also in the fray for the seat. The by-election for this seat was held on May 10. The seat fell vacant due to the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chowdhary in January. Karamjit Kaur is the wife of late Congress leader. There were 19 candidates in the fray in the by-election.
