Weather Update: Heavy rain alert issued in Tamil Nadu, NDRF teams deployed in many districts

Tamil Nadu Weather: NDRF’s 24×7 control room at Arakkonam is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and all efforts are being made in coordination with the Tamil Nadu state administration, an official said.

Weather News: Heavy rain alert has been issued in the coming days in Tamil Nadu. In view of this, six teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed. NDRF teams will be deployed in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Chennai.

NDRF official said on Tuesday (December 6, 2022) that according to the alert issued by the IMD regarding the low pressure over the South Andaman Sea, it is likely to move west-northwest and concentrate into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal. There is a possibility of fire, so six teams of NDRF will be deployed in these districts.

The official further said that our 24×7 control room at Arakkonam is closely monitoring the situation round the clock and all efforts are being made in coordination with the Tamil Nadu state administration. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains have been predicted over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between December 7 and December 9 due to a low pressure over the southern part of Andaman Sea and adjoining areas under the influence of a cyclonic circulation to the south .

According to IMD, a trough at 0.9 km above mean sea level is extending from Comorin area to north Kerala coast. Thereafter, the low pressure area is very likely to move west-northwestwards and reach Bay of Bengal, near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by morning of 8th December.

The IMD also gave information about the rainfall conditions for the next three days. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain on 6 December. Light to moderate rain very likely at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region on 7th December. Also, there is a possibility of thundershower and lightning at one or two places over Coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal region.

Heavy to very heavy rain likely in many districts of Tamil Nadu in next three days

Whereas, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is very likely at one or two places over Interior Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal. Light to moderate rain is likely at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal regions on 8th December. Apart from this, heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukkottai districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
