West Bengal: Attack on Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy in West Bengal, Mamta’s minister injured, bodyguard also hurt

West Bengal: Mamta Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy has been attacked on Friday in Medinipur district of West Bengal. Abhishek Banerjee is safe in this attack. He was not hurt, while Mamta’s minister Birbaha Hansga’s vehicle was vandalised. Hansga has been injured in this attack. His bodyguard is also hurt. A large number of police forces have been sent to the spot. The officers provided this information.

The incident took place when Abhishek was on a district tour under the party’s public relations campaign Trinamool Navajwar. The glasses of many vehicles were broken in the stone pelting. Several Trinamool workers and some policemen were also injured in the attack. However, Abhishek Banerjee is not harmed. He is safe. During this, the protesters again raised slogans of thief-thief against the Trinamool leaders. People of Kudmi community were protesting for the demand of Scheduled Tribe (ST).

Kudmi leaders, however, denied the allegations, claiming that some outsiders had attacked the TMC leader’s convoy. TMC’s second-in-command Banerjee is visiting the state as part of her public relations campaign ‘Jan Sanjog Yatra’ ahead of the panchayat elections in the state.

Police officials said that when Banerjee’s convoy was going from Dahijuri in Jhargram to Lodhsuli, some people on the roadside started raising slogans. It was claimed that as the car carrying Banerjee, who has Z+ security cover, passed by, some people suddenly attacked the vehicle following behind with bamboo sticks, iron rods and bricks. Minister Hansda and his bodyguard were injured in the attack.

Hansda said, “This is not a movement. This is hooliganism. We will not tolerate this kind of hooliganism in Jangalmahal area. We will protest. From Saturday, our party will hit the streets against this incident.” He also raised questions on the working style of the police. Said that if the police had been active, such an incident could have been avoided.

A Kudmi leader said, “We are protesting, but we did not attack the convoy.” On this Hansda said, “He is lying. We had seen him on the spot at the time of the incident. Officials said that a large number of police forces have been sent to the spot to control the situation.
