West Bengal: Mamta Banerjee’s knee surgery, injured during emergency landing of helicopter

Mamata Banerjee was returning to Kolkata on June 27 after a two-day tour of northern districts to campaign for the July 8 panchayat polls in the state. During this he was injured.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee underwent a minor surgery on her left knee on Thursday. Last week, he had injured his knee while landing from a helicopter after which the doctors had advised him rest.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chief Banerjee reached the Government SSKM Hospital in Kolkata for surgery. During this, many leaders arrived to meet him, including his nephew Abhishek Banerjee. A doctor said that the Trinamool Congress president underwent ‘orthopedic intervention’ at the state-run SSKM hospital. After the surgery, the Chief Minister was discharged and returned home in a wheelchair.

The doctor told news agency PTI, “The chief minister is better now but he will have to rest at home. We will decide on the next phase of treatment in a few days.”

Got hurt while getting off the helicopter

Mamta Banerjee got this injury while getting down from a helicopter. In fact, on June 27, due to bad weather, the helicopter had to make an emergency landing at the Sevoke airbase near Siliguri. During this, his left knee ligament was injured and left hip joint was also injured. Doctors had advised him to take rest and less movement after this.

However, the Chief Minister expressed his desire to be treated at home. Then, the doctors advised him to rest at home, while controlling his movements. Following the doctor’s advice, she again came to the hospital on Thursday, where she underwent surgery and the water was drained from her knee.
