Why is Team India scattered on the tour of Bangladesh? Indian veteran told the reason for the flop performance
The performance of the Indian women’s team on the Bangladesh tour has not been up to expectations. The star batsman of the team was seen struggling.
The tour of Bangladesh seems to be turning out to be a bad memory for the Indian women’s team. The team lost in the last match of the T20 series, while the hosts Bangladesh registered a historic victory in the first ODI. Former captain Anjum Chopra spoke to Jansatta about the decline in the performance of Team India which reached Bangladesh with an interim coach. The veteran player told that the team is not going in the right direction.
Team India not going in the right direction
When Anjum Chopra was asked about the performance of Team India on Bangladesh tour, he said, ‘There is a lack of direction in the team. Batting looks weak. The batsmen are there who have been batting well till now. There is no change in him but the bowling line-up has been completely changed. You have taken the fast bowlers but not playing them, when they are not getting chances then the onus is on the spin bowlers where only Deepti Sharma is seen. There are also two debutants, I think you had to give a chance but in whose place? Anjali Sarvanin is sitting outside, Meghna Singh is sitting outside.
India’s batting disappointing
The Indian team could not chase 153 runs in the first ODI, while in the T20 series too, their score was barely crossing 100. Despite experienced batsmen like Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, this condition of the team is surprising to Anjum Chopra. He said, ‘Bangladesh played good cricket especially their captain but still you are not chasing 150 runs no matter what the condition. You are not able to score runs in T20. Our batsmen are more experienced. Who will make the adjustment and when?
Sweat left to win against Bangladesh
He further said, ‘It is also becoming difficult for India to win this. When the next match comes, it will not be easy to win. It’s not that Team India can’t win but I look at how the winning is going. This is the first tournament after the Women’s Premier League. The players did not play professional cricket but regularly attended training camps. There must be something that is missing.
There is a new face in the dressing room on every tour.
The Indian team has also gone on this tour with an interim coach. The team has not had a head coach for a long time but Anjum Chopra does not consider it the reason for the team’s poor performance. He said, ‘The absence of the head coach makes a lot of difference. Everyday you see a new face in the dressing room, every new face cheers the team in a different way, gives different direction. That’s why the change of coach makes a difference but those things are not in the hands of the player. The player can’t think that we don’t have a solid coach who stays with him for a long time because even when the coach was there, the performance was up and down. So the presence or absence of the coach has to be kept separate from the performance of the players. If my job is to go out on the field and score runs, it doesn’t matter who is the coach in the dressing room.
