According to the statement, ‘The BCCI on Monday (Tuesday) announces the appointment of Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the batting coach of the senior women’s cricket team. Kanitkar will join the team for the five-match T20 International series against Australia starting December 9 in Mumbai.
Ramesh Powar was re-appointed in May 2021
Ramesh Powar was linked with the women’s team for a second term in May 2021. Under his guidance, the team could not do much other than a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Indian team could not even make it to the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand this year.
Reacting to his appointment, Kanitkar said, “I see tremendous potential in this team. We have a good mix of young and experienced players. I believe this team is ready for the challenge ahead. We have to take part in some big competitions. It is going to be exciting for the team and for me as the batting coach.
Ramesh Powar will work as Bowling Coach in NCA
Ramesh Powar will join NCA as spin bowling coach. NCA chief VVS Laxman said, “With Powar joining (as spin bowling coach), we are sure he will bring his expertise and experience to the National Cricket Academy. Having worked in domestic, age-group cricket and the international circuit, I am sure he will play an active role in the betterment of the game. I look forward to working with him in his new role at NCA.
On his experience of coaching the women’s team, Ramesh Powar said, ‘Over the years I have worked closely with some of the legends of the game as well as rising talents of the country. In my new role at the NCA, I will look to use my experience to help groom the talents of the future.
“I look forward to working closely with Laxman to develop our game and bench strength,” he added. The BCCI has constituted a new Cricket Advisory Committee earlier this month and it remains to be seen whether the head coach is appointed soon or not.
