Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and three-time world champion Risako Kawai has supported Indian wrestlers. He has said, “I hope very soon there will be an environment where Indian athletes can practice with peace of mind.”
Till now all the big personalities in the country have given their support to the ongoing strike-demonstration of wrestlers against the President of Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, but now the movement of wrestlers has got support from across the seven seas as well. In fact, Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and three-time world champion Risako Kawai has supported Indian wrestlers. Tweeting a video of the wrestlers, he said, “I hope very soon there will be an environment where Indian athletes can practice with peace of mind.”
Let us tell you that many Indian wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have made allegations of sexual exploitation against Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and this movement is going on only for them. This movement is going on at a time when Indian wrestlers are facing big tournaments like Asian Games and World Championship and they have to prepare for them.
Regarding this, BBC did an interview of the wrestlers, in which Sakshi Malik is saying that if we were not in this Protest, we would have been in the national camp and preparing for the Asian Games. In the video, Bajrang Punia is saying that if we were not in the Protest, we would have gone somewhere outside for training. Risako Kawai retweeted the same video of the wrestlers and wished for an environment of peace for the wrestlers.
Please tell that Risako Kawai is a two-time Olympic gold medalist. She had won gold in the 57kg women’s freestyle category at the Tokyo Olympics. Kawai is the first high profile international wrestler to support the movement of Indian wrestlers.
