Criminal Record: Which state’s ministers have the most criminal cases against them? Revanth Reddy on top in Chief Minister’s list

Criminal Cases: Of the 92 newly appointed ministers (or about 36%) last year in five states, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana, 33 have criminal and serious criminal cases registered against them. This has been revealed from the analysis of the nomination form filed by him.

Elections were held in the states in November last year and the results declared on December 3 went largely in favor of the BJP, which won majority in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The Congress defeated the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi in Telangana, while the Lalduhoma-led Zoram People’s Movement won 27 out of 40 seats in Mizoram.

The analysis also shows that, among the five states, Mizoram has the youngest ministers, while Telangana has the richest.

Of the 31 new ministers in Madhya Pradesh, 12 (39%) have criminal cases against them, and three of them are facing serious criminal cases – those related to assault, murder, kidnapping or rape. One of these three is BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.

In Rajasthan, out of 25 ministers, 8 (32%) have criminal cases against them and four of them have their names in serious criminal cases. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also figures in the list of ministers with criminal cases.

Two out of 12 ministers (17%) from Chhattisgarh are facing criminal or serious criminal cases. These are Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma and Finance Minister Om Prakash Chaudhary.

The figure is similar in Mizoram, where two out of 12 ministers face such cases – Lalnghinglowa Hamar, MLA from Aizawl West 2, and K Sapdanga, MLA from Aizawl North 3.

This figure, in percentage terms, is highest in Telangana, where nine out of 12 ministers (75%) have declared criminal cases, while five (42%) have declared serious criminal cases. The list starts with the name of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who has a staggering 89 cases against him.

education and age

In terms of education, most ministers in the states have at least a graduate level education, with 83% of ministers in both Mizoram and Telangana holding such a qualification. In terms of age, most of the ministers in the five states are between 51 and 70 years of age. However, most of the ministers in Mizoram (58%) are in the 41–60 age group.
