The water level of the Yamuna river crossed the 206-metre mark in the national capital on Tuesday, triggering the move to shift people living in flood-prone areas to safer places. As a precautionary measure, the old railway bridge has been closed for road and rail traffic, officials said.
Yamuna water in Delhi had crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters on Monday evening. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level at the old railway bridge rose to 205.4 meters at 5 pm on Monday and stood at 206.38 meters at 12 noon on Tuesday due to release of excess water from Hathnikund barrage in Yamunanagar by Haryana. has reached

Water in Yamuna has increased after three lakh cusecs of water was released from Hathini Kund Barrage in Haryana. The water level of Yamuna was recorded at 207.08 at 5 am on July 12 at the Old Delhi Railway Bridge, while it increased to 207.18 at 7 am. Till now the maximum water level of Yamuna was recorded at 207.49 in the year 1978. Authorities had warned on Tuesday itself that Yamuna river in Delhi could register its highest ever. On Tuesday itself, the water level of the Yamuna river had reached its highest record level in 10 years.
Okhla barrage gates opened
Flood water has entered many areas of Delhi. There is a danger of flood in Delhi due to rising water level in Yamuna river. Yamuna is flowing 1.36 meters above the danger mark. All the gates of Okhla Barrage have been opened to reduce the spate of the river. The old railway bridge was closed for rail traffic on Monday night itself. Forty-five boats have been deployed for relief and rescue operations. At the same time, CM Arvind Kejriwal said that there is no possibility of a flood-like situation in Delhi. The city is ready to deal with any situation.
