After the increase in the water level of Yamuna, the common people have faced a lot of problems due to water logging in many residential areas of Delhi. In such a situation, the government has still appealed to the people to be cautious. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday (July 15) said that the flood threat is not over yet and people should neither attempt swimming nor take selfies in waterlogged areas.
The Chief Minister’s appeal has come at a time when three children have died due to drowning in flood waters in Mukundpur Chowk area of North-West Delhi.
What did Arvind Kejriwal say?
This appeal of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has come to the fore in view of the negligence of the people. People were seen playing and jumping in the water after the water flooded the areas adjacent to the Yamuna and a large number of people taking selfies also started appearing on the streets.
In such a situation, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “There are reports from many places that some people are going to play in watery areas, taking selfies or recording videos. Please don’t do this, it can be fatal. The danger of flood is not over yet. The flow of water is very fast, and the water level can rise any time.
Tweeting a video of children playing in flood water in Delhi’s Shantivan area, he said, “I appeal to everyone not to do this.” It can be fatal.
Latest situation of Yamuna
The water level in the overflowing Yamuna river in Delhi has started receding on Saturday morning but it is receding at the rate of a few centimeters per hour. According to the flood monitoring portal of the Central Water Commission, the water level of the Yamuna has come down to 207.62 meters at 7 am on Saturday. Last day at 8 pm it was at 208.66 metres.
However, the Yamuna is still flowing two meters above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. Repair work of water regulator damaged near Indraprastha due to strong current of Yamuna river is completed and Delhi Traffic Police allows movement of cars, auto-rickshaws and other light vehicles on both sides of Ring Road from Shantivan to Geeta Colony permission has been granted. The traffic police department tweeted that the road leading from Shantivan to Rajghat and ISBT is still closed.
