The Rajasthan government is planning to give a fixed amount of cash to women in lieu of smartphones under a scheme to be launched on Raksha Bandhan in August.

Assembly elections are going to be held in Rajasthan this year. Before this, the Congress government of the state is trying to woo the public. In this sequence, under the special scheme brought by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for women, women will be able to buy mobile of their choice. CM Gehlot said that the government will start this scheme on Raksha Bandhan in August. We will give a certain cash amount to the women in exchange for the smartphone.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Thursday, “The government can give one type of mobile, but there are many types of mobiles in the market, so we will give the option to the people that you go and take the phone of your choice, the government will give a fixed amount.”

Significantly, CM Gehlot had announced to give smartphones to 1.35 crore women of the state in the budget 2021. Sometime back, he had also talked about giving smartphones in a phased manner from Rakshabandhan on August 30 this year. The Chief Minister said that there are many types of phones with different specifications and everyone buys a phone of their choice.

Ashok Gehlot said, “Mobile is such a thing, if you go to buy it in the market, you will get the one of your choice. How many GB to buy, which brand to buy, which model to buy. We are trying to talk to companies to set up counters like dearness relief camps and give options to the people.

Gehlot said that the government is considering giving a certain amount to women in their bank accounts to buy phones. He told that the amount to be given is being discussed. Gehlot said that the purpose of giving smartphones is women empowerment.
