Violence broke out on Thursday following a campaign launched by the administration. Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami had issued orders to shoot at sight after stones were pelted, cars were set on fire and the local police station was surrounded by the mob.

A mosque and a madrasa were demolished in Banbhulpura by the district administration. After which violence broke out. District officials said both structures stood on Nazul land.

In a letter to the Union Home Secretary on Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi demanded four additional companies of central paramilitary forces.

The letter written to the Center states, ‘In view of the continuous disruption of law and order by unruly elements during the encroachment and demolition of Malik’s garden under Banbhulpura police station area on February 8, four divisions of the Central Paramilitary Force have been deployed for law and order duty in the district. Additional companies are needed. Curfew is still in force in Banbhulpura and the local police is intensifying action against those involved in the violence.
