Historic day for Supreme Court: Live streaming of hearing of cases in SC starts from today, know which cases are involved

In a meeting chaired by CJI UU Lalit, it was decided to stream all Constitution Bench hearings through live-streaming from September 27. Now the general public can see the hearing of all the benches by visiting the website of the court.

Tuesday is a historic day for the Supreme Court. For the first time, the court hearing is being telecast live. The top court has three constitution benches to hear important matters. Now the general public will be able to watch the ongoing hearings and arguments in the Supreme Court of the country sitting at home.

On Monday, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit had said that the Supreme Court will soon have its own platform to live-stream the proceedings. In a recent meeting chaired by the CJI, it was unanimously decided that from September 27, the proceedings of all Constitution Bench hearings would be telecasted through live-streaming. Now the general public can visit the website of the Supreme Court and watch the hearing of all the constitution benches.

A constitution bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud heard the matter related to the Maharashtra political crisis on several petitions filed by Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction and Eknath Shinde faction, which were telecast live.

Let us tell you that on September 27, 2018, the then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra gave a historic decision of live telecast or webcast of important proceedings in matters of constitutional importance. On August 26, the Supreme Court had live telecast the proceedings of a bench headed by then Chief Justice (retd) NV Ramana through a webcast portal. It was a formal proceeding as Justice Ramana retired from the post of CGI on that day.

Live streaming of these cases can also happen

On Tuesday, three Constitution Benches will hear separate cases in the Supreme Court. This includes the hearing of the matter of economic reservation, which will be heard by a constitution bench headed by CJI UU Lalit. A bench headed by Justice Chandrachud will hear the dispute between Delhi and the central government on the transfer and posting rights of officers. Apart from this, there is a matter related to the rules of the Bar Council, which will be heard by a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul.
