Imran Khan again got the support of judiciary, will be transferred from Attock to high security Adiala jail

A Pakistani court has ordered the transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Attock jail in Punjab province to the high-security Adiala jail in Rawalpindi city. Imran’s party PTI had filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in August requesting to transfer him to Adiala jail keeping in mind his rich family background, social and political status. PTI’s argument was that considering Imran Khan’s status, he should be kept in a jail with A category facilities.

Although the army may have a narrow eye on the former PM of Pakistan, the judiciary is continuously supporting him. When the army and police arrested him in the Toshakhana case, Imran’s life could be saved only after the intervention of the Supreme Court. Even though he was sentenced to three years by the lower court, he was released on bail by the Islamabad High Court. Now the High Court has also fulfilled his old demand.

Sentence suspended in Toshakhana but Imran is still in jail in another case

Chief Justice of IHC has ordered the transfer of PTI Chairman Imran Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Imran Khan has been kept in Attock jail since August 5 after his conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case. The IHC had suspended his sentence on August 29, but he is still in Attock jail in the case of leaking of secret diplomatic documents.

A special court set up under the Official Secrets Act had on September 13 extended Khan’s judicial custody till September 26 in the ‘Cipher’ case. Islamabad’s lower court, which sentenced Imran Khan to three years in jail, had directed the authorities to keep him in Adiala jail. However, after his arrest he was transferred to Attock jail. Imran Khan was continuously demanding change of his jail. Following their complaints, the judge himself visited Attock jail and ordered a separate washroom to be built for them.
