IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals will make Rishabh Pant the captain on this condition, coach Ricky Ponting told.
Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) is to start on 22nd March. Rishabh Pant may return after being away from the field after being a victim of a car accident in December 2022. He can be seen captaining Delhi Capitals (DC) this season. However, there is a big catch regarding this. Franchise coach veteran Rico Ponting told on what condition Pant can become the captain.
Delhi Capitals has to play the first match of IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) from March 23 in Mohali. Before this, Pant is rehabbing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Ricky Ponting has told that if Pant is completely fit then he will be made the captain. If this does not happen he will not be the captain.
On what condition will Pant become captain?
“It is a big decision that we have to take because if he is fit, he will come straight back into the captaincy role,” Ponting said in the ICC review. If he is not fully fit and we have to use him in a slightly different role, then we have to take some decisions there. He has played practice matches in the last few weeks. This is exciting for us.
What else did Ponting say
Ponting said, “I know he has worked hard on his body and his fitness to get back to this level. He has kept wickets in one of those matches, he has fielded. Batting has not been a problem for him so far. We were obviously concerned about whether he would be ready for the IPL this year or not. His not playing last year was a big loss for us. “We can’t explain what he has gone through in the last 12 or 14 months.”
