Jammu-Kashmir: Army encounter continues in Kalakot, Rajouri, fear of 2-3 terrorists hiding
Army operation against terrorists continues in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said that heavy firing was going on between terrorists and security forces in Kalakote area of Rajouri on Tuesday, in which two army soldiers were also injured. Jammu-based defense spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sunil Bartwal said, “Technology is being used to keep an eye on terrorists. At present the campaign is going on.” On October 1, the police had received a specific intelligence regarding the movement of some suspicious persons. A joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Police in general area Kalakot.
What did the officials say?
Regarding the army operation in Rajouri, official sources said that the security forces suspect the presence of two to three heavily armed terrorists in the forest area, where the operation has been launched. According to the information, two army soldiers were injured in an encounter with terrorists in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. The encounter between security forces and terrorists started on Monday evening after a cordon and search operation in a forest area in the district, officials said. He said that a joint team of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police had cordoned off Broh and Soom forest areas of Kalakot area on Monday after receiving information about suspicious activity.
Army retaliated
Officials said the terrorists fired on the soldiers in an attempt to break the siege, following which the soldiers retaliated. A senior police officer told PTI that two army personnel were injured in the encounter. He said that the injured soldiers have been admitted to the hospital and their condition is stable.
He said that it is believed that two terrorists are in the cordoned off area and additional forces have been sent to block all routes through which the terrorists can escape. A defense spokesperson said the technology was being used to keep an eye on terrorists. He told that intensive campaign is going on.
