Karnataka Election: ‘Focus on land more than ticket’, Amit Shah’s advice to workers, when will the list of BJP candidates come?

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had said a few days back that the party would announce its candidates after completing all the procedures including survey, performance review and other guidelines laid down by the leadership.

Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) have announced their first list of candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections to be held on May 10. On the other hand, the ruling BJP is not seen in a hurry. The party’s focus is on completing the procedures laid down by the leadership before a list of potential candidates comes out. According to BJP sources, after conducting three separate surveys in each constituency, BJP will announce its list after collecting the opinion of common workers and core committee.

What did Amit Shah say?

Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended a core committee meeting of the party leadership in Karnataka during his last visit to the state on 26 March. According to sources, in the meeting, Amit Shah said that the leaders should not worry about the ticket, they should focus on the ground and strengthen the party.

The party’s parliamentary board member and former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa said, “Ultimately it is the high command who will decide on the candidates for each seat. They will look at the background and feedback on the candidates. Three rounds of survey have already been completed”

Ahead of the release of the first list of 124 Congress candidates on March 25, Bommai had said, “The list of BJP candidates will be announced as per the timetable set by the party.”

Last year, the BJP had indicated that 30 per cent sitting MLAs like Yediyurappa, who are above 70 years of age and have cases against them, would not be fielded this time.
