Navjot Singh Sidhu: Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to one year in the road rage case and was to be released in May, but is being released early because of his “good behaviour”.
Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu will come out of Patiala jail today. He has been in jail for 10 months in a road-rage case. A tweet from his official account this morning said the 59-year-old cricketer-turned-politician would address the media outside the Patiala jail in the afternoon. On Friday, he tweeted that he had been informed by “the concerned authorities” that he would be released today.

Navjot Singh Sidhu’s lawyer HPS Verma told the media that the Congress leader was getting early release under the state’s general immunity policy. He said, “Navjot Sidhu was scheduled to be released in May but due to his good behaviour, he is being released 48 days in advance.
Significantly, Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced to one year by the Supreme Court on 19 May 2022 in the case of road rage. This case related to Sidhu is of 1988 i.e. the case is 33 years old. Sidhu surrendered in the Patiala court on May 20 after being sentenced in the decades-old case. He is in jail for the last 10 months.
Actually, Sidhu along with his friend had thrashed a man. After this he died during treatment. However, it was revealed in the report that the person died of a heart attack.
