Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday demanded immediate implementation of the women’s reservation law for one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and assemblies. He said that women no longer have time to waste. Priyanka was addressing DMK’s women’s rights conference in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. Sonia Gandhi was also present in the conference.
Priyanka said that today there is a lot of discussion about empowerment. All political parties have started realizing that women can become a strong force. But they still look towards us only for votes. Priyanka said that she demands that the Women’s Reservation Act be implemented immediately. The women of India have no more time to waste. It is our right to be included in the political process.
The Congress General Secretary said that women should be given importance and respect. Parliament last month passed the Women’s Reservation Bill, which reserved one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.

The conference was organized by the women’s wing of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party as part of the 100th birth anniversary celebrations of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi. The conference called upon the BJP-led central government to take immediate action on women’s rights issues. The leaders who attended the conference were honored with a saree and Karunanidhi’s statue by Chief Minister MK Stalin. Stalin presided over it.
