Heavy Rain: The Punjab government on Sunday announced that schools in the state can now reopen from July 17 (Monday). However, the Deputy Commissioners at their level can declare a holiday for schools only where the areas are still inundated or the buildings have been damaged. State Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains tweeted, “All school heads and management committees are also directed to ensure at their level today that the school buildings are safe for the students and that they ensure all the safety of the students.” Will be responsible for the type of security.

The Education Minister further said that if any area has been flooded or any school building has been damaged, then the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts will declare holiday only in those schools.

On Friday, CM Bhagwant Mann visited the flood affected areas of Jalandhar. First of all, he had reached Gidderpindi village of Lohia town. He reviewed the work of NDRF teams. After that, he also met the personnel of the Punjab Government engaged in relief work. On this occasion, the CM said that this is not an opportunity for politics but to stand with everyone. Maan said that this is nature’s attack. We all should work together. CM said that Punjabis are known for the fact that they have always made sacrifices to protect the people. The harvest will come again. But be it human or animal, no one’s life should be lost.

On the other hand, due to the increased water level of Yamuna, many areas of Delhi have been submerged. CM Arvind Kejriwal took stock of the current situation in Delhi on Sunday. During this, he said that 6 districts of the capital are affected. Camps have been set up at different places. Efforts have been made that if there is a school or Dharamshala nearby, these camps are set up there. There is arrangement for food, water and toilets for the people here. Kejriwal said that later special camps would be set up for those whose important papers and children’s books were washed away in the flood. Books and clothes will be arranged for the children. Kejriwal said that the schools may remain closed for 1-2 more days.

Earlier, the Punjab government had ordered closure of all schools till July 13 in view of incessant rains in the state. Apart from Punjab, the Gautam Budh Nagar district administration had also announced closure of schools in the district till July 14 in view of the rising water level of Yamuna river. Schools were also closed in the national capital New Delhi due to the flood-like situation in the city.
