Ranji Trophy: Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his debut in first-class cricket on Friday, January 5, becoming the fourth youngest Indian player to do so. Vaibhav made his debut in the first class match against Mumbai at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna. He is undoubtedly the youngest player from Bihar to debut in this format of cricket, but three players had made their debut in Ranji Trophy at a younger age than him.

Alimuddin made his debut at the age of 12 years and 73 days

The youngest debutant in Ranji Trophy was Aleemuddin who made his debut in the 1942-43 season at the age of 12 years and 73 days. Ajmer-born Aleemuddin played for Rajputana in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Baroda at the Maharaja Pratap Singh Coronation Gymkhana in Baroda. The second youngest debutant in Ranji Trophy was SK Bose who made his first-class debut in 1959–60 at the age of 12 years and 76 days. He played the match between Bihar and Assam at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur.

Mohammad Ramzan was at third place in the list of players who made their debut at the youngest age in Ranji Trophy, who did this feat at the age of 12 years and 247 days. In October 1937, Ramzan played for North India in a Ranji Trophy match against United Province at the Baradari Ground in Patiala. Only 9 players have made their debut in first-class cricket before the age of 13, except these four players, Aaqib Javed (1984-85), Mohammad Akram (1968-69), Rizwan Sattar (1985-86), Salimuddin (1954 -55) and Qasim Firoz (1970-71).

Talking about Vaibhav, he is from Bihar and along with spin bowling, he also bats with his left hand. Suryavanshi played for Bihar in the 2023 edition of the Cooch Behar Trophy. In a match against Jharkhand, he scored 151 runs in 128 balls with the help of 22 fours and three sixes and in the same match he also played an inning of 76 runs. Suryavanshi also played in a quadrangular series featuring India U19 A, India U19 B, England U19 and Bangladesh U19. He scored 53, 74, 0, 41 and 0 in the tournament.
