Russia is trying hard to get a place again in the UN Human Rights Council, America is adamant on stopping the entry

Russia, which was expelled from the Human Rights Council of the United Nations after the attack on Ukraine, has again started struggling to regain its place. Voting for membership is to be held today i.e. Tuesday in Geneva. Russia has to compete with Bulgaria and Albania to regain its place. The Russian Ambassador says that America is making every effort to prevent it from returning to this structure.

Moscow’s representative in the United Nations, Vasily Nembezia, says that letters have been written on behalf of America to 193 member countries of the Council. Joe Biden’s country is trying to prevent Russia from re-entering the Council. He says this is bad politics. Nambezia said in the Security Council meeting that America has a phobia of Russia. That is why they are doing low level activities. The Security Council meeting was called on the demand of Ukraine. Last week, 52 Ukrainian civilians were killed in a Russian attack. The Russian missile had fallen on a village in Ukraine. Ukraine says that the Russian army is throwing their unarmed and helpless people into the fire of war.

He says that Felice Guyer, director of an American institute, has written a letter to 193 countries asking them to stop Russia’s entry into the Council by all means. On the other hand, America’s Deputy Ambassador to the Security Council, Robert Wood, said that Russia’s re-entry into the Human Rights Council could become an infamous stain. Given the way Putin’s country is violating human rights in Ukraine, he should be barred from coming to the Council.

In April 2022, Russia was removed from the Council just two months after the attack on Ukraine. Out of 193 countries, 58 were absent during voting. 93 voted against Russia while 24 were in its favor.
