Sandeshkhali: CBI team that went to take custody of Shahjahan Sheikh got a shock, returned empty handed from CID
Regarding the Sandeshkhali controversy, today Kolkata High Court has issued an order that the case will be investigated by CBI. (CBI) should be handed over and the main accused Shahjahan Shaikh should also be handed over to CBI. After this decision, the CBI team reached the CI to take the custody of Shahjahan Sheikh but had to return empty handed. CID said that the matter is still in the Supreme Court, hence CBI cannot take Shaikh.
On one hand, due to the Sandeshkhali controversy, there has been a ruckus between CBI and CID regarding the custody of Shahjahan Sheikh, on the other hand, ED has also taken major action against Sheikh and has confiscated a large part of his property.
The court has also directed that the custody of TMC leader Shahjahan Shaikh, arrested by West Bengal Police on February 29 in connection with the attack, be handed over to the central agency. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has approached the Supreme Court.
CBI officers returned empty handed
According to the information, a CBI team had left the police headquarters at 7.30 pm empty handed as the state had approached the Supreme Court and hence refused to hand over Shahjahan till the apex court’s decision. The high court found the state police to be “grossly biased” and called for a “fair, honest and thorough investigation” into the allegations against Shahjahan.
It is noteworthy that on behalf of West Bengal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Gopal Shankar Narayanan have said before the Supreme Court that the High Court has ordered to transfer the case to CBI and has asked to hand over the case papers and Shahjahan Sheikh to CBI. However, the Supreme Court bench said that you should follow the process i.e. proceed as per the prescribed procedure.
ED’s big action
On one hand, there is an uproar regarding handing over the investigation to CBI, on the other hand, the Central Investigation Agency Enforcement Directorate has taken major action against the accused Sheikh Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali case. ED has seized assets worth Rs 12.78 crore of Sheikh Shahjahan. ED has seized 14 properties of Shahjahan under PMLA.
