Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, who played a role against the BJP in Maharashtra and at the Center, has decided that his party will contest against the Neiphiu Rio-led BJP-NDPP in Nagaland. -NDPP) will accept the alliance. However, it is not clear whether the Nationalist Congress Party will be part of the government or will only support the government from outside. This step is very important and it is likely to have an impact in Maharashtra politics as well. There the NCP is in alliance with the Congress and the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena.
Party legislators called it a step taken in the interest of the state
The decision came after the Nagaland unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the winning 7 MLAs of the party expressed their opinion to support the government in the “larger interest of the state”. The party’s national general secretary and Northeast in-charge Narendra Verma told news agency ANI over phone that the party was considering moving a proposal for the post of Leader of Opposition in the Nagaland Assembly.
In a letter released to the media, Verma said that in the first meeting of the NCP Legislature Party held in Kohima on March 4, it was discussed who would be the leader, deputy leader, chief whip, whip and spokesperson of the party Legislature Party. Er Picto Shohe has been elected as the leader of the NCP Legislature Party, with P Longon as his deputy. NCP Legislature Party leader Namri Nachang as Chief Whip, Y Mohanbemo Hamtso as Whip and S. Toiho Yeptho was made the spokesperson.
The decision was agreed upon by all the MLAs
“There was also a discussion about whether the NCP should be part of the government or play the role of the main opposition party. The local newly elected MLA and the local unit of the NCP in Nagaland were of the opinion that we should participate.”
Said that the legislators are of the opinion, “It will be in the larger interest of the State of Nagaland and in our own good that we support Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) chief and Chief Minister of Nagaland, N Rio.” The final decision was left to Sharad Pawar. Pawar on Tuesday decided to accept the leadership of N Rio after listening to the North East in-charge.
