Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunatilke arrested in Sydney, caught by police for rape

Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunatilke has been arrested in Sydney. He has been arrested by Sydney Police on charges of rape. Sri Lankan batsman Danushka Gunatilke, accused by the local police after an alleged sexual assault incident, was arrested from the Sydney team hotel on Sunday morning. According to developments, Gunatilke was arrested along with a 29-year-old woman at a residence in Rose Bay.

The New South Wales Police said in a statement, “The woman met the man (Danushka Gunatilke) after communicating with him for several days through an online dating application. The woman alleged that the woman was sexually assaulted on the evening of Wednesday, November 2, 2022. The alleged crime scene has been investigated by the police at an address in Rose Bay.”

Police said, “A 31-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1 a.m. today (Sunday 6 November 2022). She was taken to Sydney City Police Station and charged with four counts of sexual intercourse. The Sri Lankan national was denied bail after he appeared before the Parramatta Bail Court through AVL (Audio Visual Link).”

Danushka Gunatilke has been arrested for an alleged rape. The Sri Lankan team has gone back to Sri Lanka from Australia without him. A source close to the Sri Lankan team told the Indian Express.
