Sri Lankan Navy caught 8 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, one boat also seized

The Sri Lankan Navy has apprehended 8 Indian fishermen for entering their maritime territory. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. He told that these fishermen are residents of Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu. The fisheries department says the Sri Lankan Navy has taken fishermen into custody late Monday night on charges of fishing in its waters between Mullaithivu and Nedunthivu. They have also seized an Indian boat.

The fishermen had boarded a mechanized vessel from the port of Jegadapattinam in the district on Monday morning. Sources in the Coastal Security Group said the fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy at around 2 am on Tuesday when they were fishing near Neduntheevu.

The fishermen were taken along with their boats to the Kankesanthurai naval base in Sri Lanka. Sources said that the boat owners P. Tamilselvan (37), C. Viji (28), A. Dinesh (26), G. Ranjit (27), S. Pakkirisamy (45), S. Kamal (25), S. Punudhu included. (41) and M. Karthik (27).
