Survey of madrasas completed in UP, 7,500 do not have recognition, no investigation purpose, know why the survey was done

Iftikhar Ahmed Javed, President, UP Madrasa Education Board said that the data of the survey will be used only as a means of providing better quality education to the children studying and progressing in these madrassas.

The survey work being carried out for the purpose of locating unrecognized madrasas in Uttar Pradesh has been completed. Iftikhar Ahmed Javed, president of the UP Madrasa Education Board, says that 7 thousand 500 such madrasas have been detected, which do not have recognition. However, he also says that the exact figure of unrecognized madrassas will be known only after the survey report is submitted to the administration in November.

He said that around 7,500 unrecognized madrassas have been detected in UP through the statewide survey that was concluded on Thursday (October 20, 2022). Javed said that this survey will be made available to the administration by the district magistrates on November 15 which will present an accurate figure of unrecognized madrassas.

He said that the data would be used only as a means of providing better quality education to the children studying and progressing in these madrasas. He said that after receiving the report, efforts would be made to connect these madrassas with the UP Madarsa Education Board. He said, “I want to say in clear words that the survey does not challenge the reality of any madrasa. No madrasa is illegal. The board has not recognized any madrassas over the years, so it is natural to have a large number of unrecognized madrassas.”

Let us inform that many political parties, including SP and AIMIM, had expressed their opposition to the survey of madrasas. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had even called it a mini NRC. He had attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party over this survey and demanded that if there is a survey of madrasas, then Hindu monasteries should also be surveyed.

At the same time, meetings were organized by organizations like Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind in protest against the survey where concerned madrasa representatives expressed their concern. There are 16,513 recognized madrassas, and 560 receive grants but there was no estimate of unrecognized madrassas.
