Tax officer-turned-actress, name came in 263 crore scam, know who is Kriti Verma
Investigation also revealed that Kriti had bought land in Pune, Khandala, Karjat, Udupi, flats in Panvel and Mumbai and three luxury vehicles with the money received from black money.
After Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi, the name of another actress has surfaced in the money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started an investigation in the Rs 263 crore money laundering case against Kriti Verma, who has become an actress after leaving the post of Income Tax Officer. Kriti Verma, who has appeared in TV shows like Roadies and Bigg Boss season 12, is alleged to have defrauded the Income Tax Department in the name of issuing tax refunds and having links with key accused involved in similar offences. After which now ED has summoned Kriti for questioning.
ED started investigation
In fact, in the year 2022, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case against several people, including Panvel businessman Bhushan Anant Patil, a senior tax assistant Tanaji Mandal officer of the Income Tax Department, for fraudulently issuing tax refunds. The CBI had registered an FIR in this matter in Delhi. In which a complaint was made for issuing fake refunds for the years 2007-08 and 2008-09. On the basis of the same FIR, ED has started investigation under PMLA.
What is the matter?
Apart from Anant Patil’s bank account, the money was transferred to several other bank accounts. As per investigation, 12 bogus TDS refunds amounting to Rs 263.95 crore were issued by Tanaji Circle Officer between 15 November 2019 and 4 November 2020. The fraudulently obtained refund money was transferred to the bank accounts of the concerned persons, Patil, institutions and also to shell companies.
The ED says that most of the illegal money was sent to Bhushan Patil’s account and a part was used to buy properties. Some of the properties that were bought with this money were also in the name of Kriti Verma. However, Kriti Verma denied these allegations. She said that she had given a dance performance before getting into a relationship with Patil. He was paid Rs 1 crore for that performance.
Who is Kriti Verma?
Kriti Verma says that she had a relationship with Patil after meeting Patil during a dance show in late 2020. Kriti said that as a responsible citizen, she helped the agencies by providing all the information against the accused. Kriti claimed that she had separated from Bhushan Patil within 6 months of knowing about the cheating.
Kriti Verma was a Goods and Sales Tax (GST) inspector before becoming an actress. In the year 2018, after selection in Roadies, he left the government job. Kriti also participated in the 12th season of Bigg Boss. She got many web series offers and also got a dance show. During this dance show, Kriti met businessman Bhushan Patil and after some time both got into a relationship.
