Uttarakhand: BJP in dilemma on two seats, Congress seems to be lagging behind

In Uttarakhand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared its candidates for three out of five Lok Sabha seats in the first list. On these three seats, BJP has expressed confidence in the sitting MPs by giving them tickets. Ajay Bhatt, the current MP from Nainital parliamentary constituency and Union Minister of State for Defense and Tourism, Ajay Tamta, the current MP from Almora reserved parliamentary seat, former Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta and Mala Rajyalakshmi Shah, the queen of the Tehri royal family, sitting MP from Tehri parliamentary constituency, have been re-elected by the BJP. This time he has fielded the election.

The party has not yet announced candidates for the parliamentary seats of Haridwar and Pauri Garhwal. At the same time, Congress, the largest opposition party in Uttarakhand, seems to be lagging behind in the Lok Sabha elections. Congress does not seem to have strong candidates for the five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand.

The current MP from Haridwar is former Union Minister and former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and the current MP from Pauri is former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat. There is still doubt about the political future of these two. Nishank has been continuously active in Haridwar for the last few years and is again making a strong claim for the ticket. Whereas from Haridwar, former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and former minister Swami Yatishwaranand are claiming Lok Sabha ticket this time.

Former CM is also trying for ticket

Haridwar city MLA Madan Kaushik is engaged in advocating for Trivendra Singh Rawat. By the way, Madan Kaushik is also among the contenders for the ticket. Kaushik and Rawat are considered to be from the same camp in Uttarakhand politics, while Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev is very active in getting the ticket for Swami Yatishwaranand and former MLA Sanjay Gupta is also claiming the ticket.

It is considered certain that the ticket of former Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat, the sitting MP from Pauri Garhwal parliamentary constituency, will be cut, because Tirath Singh Rawat had given many controversial statements while being the Chief Minister. However, Shaurya Doval, son of Prime Minister’s Security Advisor Ajit Doval, is from Pauri parliamentary constituency. The name is also in discussions.

Congress seems to be lagging behind

It is believed that the name of former Rajya Sabha member and BJP’s national spokesperson and media in-charge Anil Baluni is also in the headlines from Haridwar and Pauri parliamentary constituencies. Right now, there is mystery regarding Haridwar and Pauri parliamentary constituencies. While BJP has declared its candidates for three out of five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand, there is silence in the Congress camp till now. Harish Rawat himself is a contender from Haridwar parliamentary constituency and he is also seeking a ticket from Haridwar for his son.

On the other hand, Congress state president Karan Mahara and former minister Harak Singh Rawat are also claiming ticket from Congress for Haridwar parliamentary constituency. Congress can field its most powerful leader, former minister from Tehri and sitting MLA from Chakrata, Pritam Singh in the Lok Sabha elections. Congress does not have a strong candidate for Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Almora.
