We will have to wait so long to abolish IPC and CrPC, know what changes will happen after its implementation.

The government, which is busy in making changes in the laws of the British era, is going to make radical reforms in the laws like IPC, CRPC and Evidence Act and also change their names. The government intends to completely remove the imprint and symbol of the British Raj from the Indian justice system. Under this, IPC will be known as Indian Justice Code, Indian Civil Protection Code instead of CrPC and Evidence Act will be known as Indian Evidence Bill. Along with making major changes in these laws, the government will also decide their definition, use, time limit and many other provisions. However, all this is not possible so quickly. For this we will have to wait till the 2024 elections. Now this will be possible only after the elections.

The government will present it again in the Parliament in the winter session.

PM Narendra Modi’s government had presented a bill regarding this in Parliament in August. After approval from Parliament, many changes will have to be made in it. The Select Committee of Parliament has given the bill to the government with recommendations. Now the government will present them again in the Parliament in the winter session.

New laws will affect new cases only

Even after approval from Parliament, it will have to wait for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the arrival of the new government for its full implementation. Only after that new cases will be registered under these laws. Officers say that the change in laws will affect only new cases and cases. The cases already running under IPC and CrPC will continue in the same manner. That means there will be no impact on old cases.

IPC and CRPC will end soon, the bill will be brought only in the winter session starting from December 4.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him not to rush into the proposed bills to change the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) and Indian Evidence Act (IEA). .

According to sources, the Chief Minister said that since change in the existing legal system is a long-term process, the matter should be discussed on the floor of Parliament before the bills are introduced. In the letter, the Chief Minister has also claimed that after studying the draft of changes in IPC, CrPC and IEA, the State Secretariat has also sent its recommendations in this matter to the Union Home Ministry.
