Women’s Reservation Bill: President’s approval to Women’s Reservation Bill, but when will it be implemented? Know the big points

The Women’s Reservation Bill was approved by President Draupadi Murmu on Friday. Now it has become a law. Immediately after receiving the President’s approval, the Central Government has issued a gazette notification. This is a historic bill whose implementation was underway for a long time. It was passed with the consent of all in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during a special session in Parliament earlier this month.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had signed the Constitution Amendment Bill passed by Parliament on Thursday (September 28) before it was sent to the President for assent.

What is this law, when will it be implemented?

This bill has been called ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’, which will now be included in the Constitution as Article 334A. This law gives 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. However, it will take some time to be implemented. The opposition had raised many questions regarding this very question, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had raised questions in the Parliament that the government should not delay in implementing it.

  1. 1.The demand for Women Reservation Bill was being made for the last 27 years. Now 33 percent seats will be reserved for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

2. According to this bill, one-third of the seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be reserved for women coming from the SC-ST community.

3. These reserved seats may be allotted by rotation system to different regions in the States and Union Territories. According to the Women’s Reservation Bill, reservation of seats for women will be for 15 years only.

4.It is proposed in this bill that the reserved seats should be rotated after every election of the Lok Sabha. Reserved seats may be allocated by rotation among different constituencies in a state or union territory. But this will not happen very soon, especially not in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This will be possible only after the next census and subsequent delimitation.
