Supreme Court denies criminal proceedings
Earlier on September 16, the High Court had refused to stay criminal proceedings against Hussain in respect of three FIRs related to his involvement in the 2020 riots in northeast Delhi. With regard to similar petitions filed next week, the High Court issued a notice, giving time to the defense counsel to file his reply and directing the matter to be heard along with other petitions on January 25, 2023.
Money laundering cases have connection with Delhi riots: Supreme Court
On Monday, senior advocate Maneka Guruswamy, appearing for the petitioner, asked whether the High Court can resolve the matter more expeditiously, to which the bench replied no, thank you. In a separate case, a Delhi court earlier this month filed a money laundering case under Section 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. The court also observed that this money laundering case of Tahir is linked to the riots in northeast Delhi in the year 2020.
