MP-MLA court gives relief to 23 including Giriraj Singh, case related to rail stop in 2014 to get ‘special status’ to Bihar

In March 2014, a statewide “Rail Roko” campaign was launched by BJP leaders against the Congress-led central government for not granting special category status to Bihar.

A Bihar court on Saturday acquitted senior BJP leader Giriraj Singh and 22 others in a case related to staging the rail blockade in 2014. Union minister Giriraj Singh, Vaishali MP Veena Devi, two former ministers and others, who were acquitted in this case due to lack of evidence, have been given relief by the special MP-MLA court in Muzaffarpur.

Why was the case registered?

In March 2014, a statewide “Rail Roko” campaign was launched by BJP leaders against the Congress-led central government for not granting special category status to Bihar. A case was registered in this matter in Sonpur. Later the case was transferred from Sonpur to Muzaffarpur court. A case was registered against Union Minister Giriraj Singh and others regarding this Rail Roko movement.

Giving information about the whole case, the defense advocate Ashok Kumar while talking to the media said, ‘A total of 27 people were named in this case and 23 of them were made accused. All have been acquitted due to lack of evidence against them.

A total of 23 persons were accused in the case. Prominently among them, apart from Union Minister Giriraj Singh, former state ministers Suresh Kumar Sharma, Ramsurat Rai, Vaishali MP Veena Devi, former BJP District President Arvind Kumar Singh, Anju Rani, Devanshu Kishore, Kamleshwar Prasad alias KP Pappu, Ashish Sahu, Vinod Kumar Kushwaha, Devi Lal, Sasikumar Singh, Ritendra Kumar alias Ritendra Prakash Sharma, Dinesh Kumar alias Dinesh Kumar Pushpam, Dhirendra Prasad Singh alias Dhirendra Kumar Singh, Manish Kumar Avinash Suman Kumar alias Suman Kumar Sinha, Raghunandan Prasad Singh, Madan Chowdhary, Rambabu Rai, Geeta Devi and Vandana were included.

Nitish Kumar also demanded special status for Bihar

On March 22, on the occasion of Bihar’s foundation day, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had demanded special status for the state. Addressing a program on the occasion of 111th Bihar Day, Nitish Kumar said, ‘Although Bihar is still in the grip of poverty, it is climbing the ladder of development every year. Bihar should be given special status. We are demanding this from the Centre.
