IND vs WI: How will Ishan Kishan become an alternative to Rishabh Pant, refused to play in Duleep Trophy

Team India is looking for a good wicket-keeper batsman in Test cricket after Rishabh Pant was injured in a car accident. KS Bharath was tried in the domestic Border Gavaskar Trophy and World Test Championship Final 2023 (WTC Final 2023) against Australia, but he could not do much. Ishan Kishan was also selected in the team, but he did not get a chance to play.

It is believed that Ishan Kishan will be given a chance during the two-match series on the West Indies tour. Earlier, he has refused to play in Duleep Trophy. He was to get the captaincy of East Zone, but after his refusal, Abhimanyu Easwaran will be the captain of the team while former India spinner Shahbaz Nadeem will be the vice-captain. Abhishek Porel has been selected as the wicketkeeper.

Ishan Kishan does not want to play

Regarding Ishan Kishan, a member of the East Zone selection committee told PTI, “He was in the Indian team for the WTC final and KS Bharat was selected in the playing XI, so we had asked the regional selection committee coordinator Debashish Chakraborty whether Can we choose Ishan? He has been playing consistently for India in limited overs so he should have got the captaincy. Chakraborty asked him over phone and told us that he does not want to play Duleep Trophy. We have not been told whether he is injured or not. It was just told that he does not want to play.

Wriddhiman Saha asked to give chance to the youth

After Ishan Kishan’s decision, Tripura selector Jayant Dey wanted Wriddhiman Saha to be selected and he was also approached, but he preferred to give chance to young players. The source said, “Wriddhiman said that Duleep Trophy is to play for Team India. If I don’t get selected for India, then there is no point in holding a place for a young player. So we selected Abhishek Porel, who was the third option.
