TB free India: Modi government started TB patient adoption campaign

Tuberculosis TB Disease: The Modi government has set a target to eliminate TB by 2025 through the Nikshay Mitra campaign. Under this campaign, the Modi government has promoted the adoption of TB patients. Under this, blocks, districts or an individual patient can be adopted and protected. In this, TB patients will get support in nutrition and treatment.

In this campaign, support for nutrition, diagnosis and vocational training of the adopted patients will be provided to their family members. The government says that about 9.57 lakh patients have been approved for adoption in this campaign. People and organizations who adopt a TB patient will be known as Nikshay Mitras.

Let us tell that every year 20-25 lakh TB cases are reported in India and about 4 lakh people lose their lives due to this disease. Presently 13.5 lakh TB patients are undergoing treatment out of which more than 9 lakh patients have given their consent for adoption under the Nikshay Mitra Abhiyan.

The minimum period of commitment to provide additional support to a TB patient under this campaign will be one year. However, it can be extended up to two or three years. To help TB patients, a monthly meal containing three kg rice, 250 g vegetable oil and one kg milk powder or six liters of milk or one kg groundnut instead of one and a half kilograms of pulses has been recommended.

At the same time, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also urged Twitter to adopt TB patients. He wrote on his Twitter account, “Today on the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I have adopted 40 TB patients from my birthplace Palitana. Let us all join this service work of humanity of Modi ji and build TB free India with public participation. All of you should also adopt TB patients.
